Candle Care
FIRST BURN
The first time you burn your candle is important! Make sure you have a few hours to relax with your candle the first time you burn it, because it’s essential that it burns long enough for the melted wax pool to reach the edges of the container.
This will prevent the candle from tunnelling, and ensure you get the most out of your candle. Each 300g jar candle is approximately 35+ hours burn time.
It should take between 2-4 hours for the melt pool to reach the edges, depending on the climate. In cooler weather, it will take your candle longer to melt to the edges.
Listed burn time of our products is an approximation. The actual burn time of a candle can vary based on environmental factors such as ambient temperature and age.
REGULAR USE
Never allow your candle to burn for more than 4 hours at a time. The recommended time for each use is 2 hours.
Before relighting your candle, trim or break off any mushrooming of the wick to allow a clean burn and prevent smoke.
It is always best to use a snuffer or wick dipper to extinguish your candle to prevent blowing wax outside of the candle container. Dipping the wick eliminates smoke.
Once the candle is extinguished, leave the candle where it is until it has cooled and hardened.
BUBBLES + LUMPS
Does your candle exhibit a lumpy or bubbly surface after it cools down and hardens? Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with your candle! This is a feature of natural soy wax. As the wax cools, different parts cool at different rates and create this uneven surface. Your candle will still burn as it should.
STORAGE
When your candle is not in use, keep the lid on to preserve the scent throw.
Keep your candle away from direct sunlight.
Please note candles may exhibit ‘sweating’ in the hotter months. Do not wipe this away, as it may effect the scent throw. This sweating will either evaporate or seep back into the wax the next time you burn.
Natural soy wax is a very soft wax, and is effected by high temperatures. This means Aussies, keep your candles in a cool place when not in use during the Summer months!
TROUBLESHOOTING
Sometimes a candle doesn't burn smoothly or evenly. This is due to a number of factors and can usually be resolved with a little attention to the wick.
Firstly, make sure the wick is trimmed and free of build up (called mushrooming).
Secondly, if your candle is burning unevenly and the wick is noticeably leaning to one side, take a metal skewer, wick dipper or butter knife and move the wick over so that it is a centred as possible. This works best when the candle is burning and there is already a melt pool.
Please be cautious when doing this, and always use a flameproof tool to manipulate the wick while it is lit.
Lastly, some of our candles include embeds such as botanicals or stones. It is recommended that stones are removed before burning, but if you have chosen to leave any embeds in and they have caused the candle to burn unevenly you can use a metal spoon to fish them out. Soy wax can be washed off any utensil with hot soapy water.
